Managing the risks introduced by shadow SaaS is a significant challenge for modern security professionals. Even with tools that provide visibility into shadow SaaS, your team likely still faces these obstacles:
Overlooked SaaS Risks: Continuously monitoring logs and dashboards to detect shadow SaaS risks can overwhelm security teams, leading to missed vulnerabilities.
Alert Fatigue: The constant influx of alerts makes it difficult to prioritize and address the most critical threats.
Unclear Remediation Steps: Even when risks are identified, there’s often no clear guidance on which steps to take first.
Manual Efforts: Manually managing SaaS risks is both time-consuming and overwhelming. It involves identifying risks, gathering insights, prioritizing responses, and executing actions.
We’re excited to introduce Alert Center and Policy Center—two powerful new features designed to simplify SaaS identity risk management, empowering your team to take timely and effective action at scale.
Overview of the Features
The Alert and Policy Centers deepen the capabilities of Grip's SaaS Identity Risk Management platform, covering all phases of SaaS security - from discovery to evaluation and mitigation.
Alert Center
Just as the name implies, the Alert Center curates alerts triggered by risky events across your SaaS environment. For instance, Grip can generate an alert when it detects a new unmanaged app or when a user tries to regain access to a previously revoked app.
The Alert Center categorizes alerts by severity—from low to critical—so your security team can focus on the most urgent threats. Alerts are customizable to align with your organization’s specific risk thresholds, and they notify the right personnel via email or integrate with systems like SIEM through webhooks. This ensures critical risks are addressed promptly, before escalating.
But raising alerts is just the beginning. Alert Center also offers guidance by recommending remediation actions for each alert. For example, when an unsanctioned app is detected, Alert Center can suggest actions such as requesting a user justification. With one click, administrators can issue a justification request directly from within Grip.
"We don’t want to block people, but with Grip, we can proactively ask why you’re using a particular tool and for what purpose. Based on the associated risk, we can either approve it or suggest an alternative already in use." - Director of IT and Security
Policy Center
Building on Alert Center, Policy Center automates the remediation process. Rather than simply notifying administrators of risks, Policy Center allows you to create policies that automatically resolve security issues.
For example, when Grip identifies that an unsanctioned app is in use, Policy Center can automatically send a request for the user to justify their usage. Additionally, for high-risk SaaS apps, Policy Center can automatically revoke access, ensuring security without manual intervention.
To see how these features can help your security team manage SaaS identity risks with greater confidence while reducing manual efforts, explore the following interactive demo.
Key Benefits of Alert and Policy Centers
Focus on Critical Risks: Helps security teams filter out the noise and zero in on the most critical shadow SaaS risks.
Reduced Response Time: Shortens the time needed to respond to high-risk SaaS events, while minimizing alert fatigue.
Operational Efficiency: Automates workflows to reduce the manual effort required to manage the SaaS attack surface.
Enhanced Compliance: Enforces consistent security practices to improve regulatory compliance.
Real-World Use Cases
Faster Response to High-Risk Alerts: A medical laboratory customer cut their response time to high-priority alerts by 50%, focusing their team on the most critical unmanaged app risks.
Automating Access Revocation: A business services provider improved security by automatically revoking access to risky apps, preventing unauthorized attempts without manual intervention.
Streamlined App Vetting: An insurance company reduced the effort to vet new apps by using Policy Center to automatically prompt users to justify their adoption of new applications.
These use cases demonstrate how Alert Center and Policy Center enhance security teams' efficiency and effectiveness.
